Relapsed

I'm in deep trouble. After 5 years, 3 years and now 1 year I have relapsed hard. I'm an alcoholic who got prescribed hydrocodone for severe shoulder pain and now I can not get off them. I'm embarrassed, humiliated you name it. I've been lying about it to everyone including myself. I have lost so much to this disease I just don't know if I have another recovery in me. I'm in bad shape

Welcome, remftu, to SR. Lots of support, encouragement and understanding here.

Maybe you can start with making an appointment with your doctor.

Have you considered NA?

You must never give up hope because this disease is relentless.

Can you talk to the dr who prescribes the medication and work out a plan to get off it with his help?

Remftu, It's so good you came here to talk about what's going on. We all understand what you're going through. I'd be in the same situation if I'd been given that prescription. Never give up on getting it right - you can do it this time and never go back there.

I appreciate all the support. Just is a really daunting task starting all over at 41. I understand this is the consequence of my action, but this one really hurts.

Don't waste time on self hatred and guilt. Concentrate your energy on getting back on the saddle.

You can do this!

I started over at the age of 58. I threw away twenty years sober when I started drinking wine again.

I'm glad you joined us. Lots of support and friendship here.

Welcome Remftu, I think you most certainly have another recovery in you! Whats step one to start your new journey? You spoke of detox, can you get into detox soon? Like Leigh mentioned have you spoken with your doctor yet? Baby steps will make you feel better, just don't remain stagnant or you will freak yourself out and feel hopeless and I already see a lot of that in your writing. Start something, like right now, you're worth the battle and 40 is the new 20 tons of time left.
