Went to my first AA meeting tonight
I finally did it! Never thought I was one of those people who needed AA...denial! wish I did it sooner. I met some of the most wonderful, helpful, honest, caring people. It was an open meeting. About 50 plus people, all ages, male and female. They had 2 speakers tell their story about drinking and recovery. I had a few ladies come over to me and gave me their cell#s. I'm actually excited to go to the meeting tomorrow night! I feel very hopeful that this time I am going to get it right!! I have a plan and people to support me and to be accountable to. MOTIVATED!
I am very involved with my A.A. group. It's refreshing to hear your story. I found it's the only thing that has worked for me. Hope you continue and enjoy the journey. It gets better.

Good for you! It sounds like you found a good meeting group! Keep in mind that AA meetings vary in terms of mood, procedures, etc. You really have to "shop" around to find the meetings that suit you best, especially if you're attending more than once a week. I've developed my own list of favorites. There were some, here and there, that seemed downright morbid or just too negative for me, and others there were very welcoming and friendly. Best of luck to you.
Hello onmyway,
my mother n law and she is also a recovery alcoholic, she and I are going to a AA meeting too. She goes alot where she lives and I am a little scared to go, but I asked if I can go with.
I am hoping I can find what I need there and gives something to look forward for me to be sober.

I went to my first one tonight too. Kinda forceful about getting a sponsor, but I enjoyed myself. Kinda like going to a bar and talking to strangers (except for the alcohol part). Better than giving in to the beast! I'm going next week too. They gave me a book to read as well. We will see! WE are in this together! Keep posting, as will I!

I find that a bit unusual but an excellent idea to have one.
A sponsor is sort of a teacher, guide, helper but not a god like person. It’s part of what keeps AA alive, one alcoholic helping another.
I certainly needed one because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I feel so more now than when I came in before all the miss information of the internet.
This person can be a temporary or a permanent sponsor, just don’t try to get one that you agree with all the time as we must hear the facts as they are not the way we want them.
BE WELL
Congratulations, amigo.
What you did took a lot of courage.
Welcome, and please come back daily and do the other things they tell you to do in AA and in our Big Books and 12 and 12.
Thanks for posting.

Hello all, It seems like the one's who went to there first meetings got cured. Here it is Tuesday morning in Freezing Michigan, and no word back from the newcomers. It's the same in cyber space as it is in the real world I guess.
