Somebody stop me!

Having a bad day and really want a drink. Well my AV does. I know it won't solve anything and will only make it worse. But just had to share my craving with you guys to stop me dropping in to buy booze on my way home from work.

Play it forward. Will drinking help or hinder?

Bad days are not rewarded (or punished) with booze. At the end of the day, say a prayer of thanks that it's over, and go home. That should be relief enough for the worst days.

Leave your money and debit cards at home. You can't buy booze with no cash. When I was tempted I would let my friend know what my AV voice was planning and telling him made me rethink my actions. I still left my money at home.

What helps me..... stop and grab a soda, or even a yummy shake. Grab a movie too, or if you have Netflix... The Killing is a great series!

or a fancy coffee/tea - ANYTHING but booze.
Think of the wretched hangover and guilt/shame tomorrow. IS it worth it?

And, remember, the next time it will be a bit easier because you got through this time.

Hi Lizella! You can get through this. A bad frazzled day is only an excuse the drink is giving to justify a slip. Distraction, distraction, distraction. What films did you watch over the weekend with your friend? Did you enjoy them?

I spent a lot of the weekend doing a jigsaw puzzle with my friend so I'll carry on with that! Good call I'm going to my second AA meeting tonight for some extra support too. Not sure if it's for me yet but looking down all avenues this time to make sure this is the last time.

Thanks for responding everyone. It's so good to have such instant support. Just what I needed. I am not going to drink today.

i agree with the above- grab an alternative treat! you probably deserve something. doesnt mean you have to punish yourself with alcohol.
