Free counseling??
Free counseling??
Guess what I learned today at college? Free counseling. Not just career based, but emotional, depression, alcohol and drug...some of you are probably like "yeah...duh" but I did not know that. What are your opinions on this totally confidential, free service to students? I am kind of embarrassed talking to someone in an institution that I am putting my future into.

It's a big thing these days where I'm from, suicide rates are on the up and the lack of resources is a key factor, so universities and high schools have now started to offer these types of services.
Not sure how university works over there but here all that was important was the grades, references didn't come from the university for a job, so there would have been no opportunity for them to slip in a sentence about counselling.
It's pretty widely accepted here that students are under considerable stress, both financially and academically, so mentioning counselling wouldn't have been anything weird or unusual, and with it being of a confidential nature the university wide population wouldn't probably know the reason for it, let alone a potential employer!!

It's kind of awesome, I was just looking up addiction counseling this morning a and that is not in my budget. I had to go to the counseling office for a project and is an grateful for that project. There is so much more at college then I knew the first time around. Much different with age

I had to have this discussion with my career employer a few weeks ago, my HR department knows about my journey to sobriety. If I did not fear speaking with my employer, you should not be concerned about speaking with your college. I too was apprehensive about making that step, but I have found nothing but support from the time that I came out (of the bottle that is ).
Best of luck, you got this!
