Rats

I went away for a long weekend, wasn't able to log in here and fell after 10 days where I really felt great being sober. I remember this when dieting, I avoided eating out, took awhile because I wasn't as "controlled" as when I'm home safe. I am home now and committed to staying sober. I may need your help in a week or so when another trip is coming up, I realize that in these early stages, being away makes it harder. You all saved me on my last trip, but this new one is a longer duration.

Funny thing, after 10 days my clothes fit looser - 10 little days. I looked and felt so much better. Then I went right along and drank. And ate more and spent more money - all of the things I'm trying to avoid. I'm sorry everyone - but thank you for getting me to the 10 days dry (a HUGE milestone that I can't wait to exceed) and thank you for supporting me as I get back on the horse. I know I can't do this without communicating honestly on this site.

You are right to get back at it Yankee! I had troubles with the double digits many times. I hit ten or twenty and then drink.

But the good part of this is you have a choice not to drink. You don't have to and no one can make you. When you hear that addictive voice in your head shut it down. Put him in a box in your mind and plug the air holes. He has NO power over you.

Welcome to SR! This place is what got me sober. I am in triple digits and choosing everyday to never drink again.

I was clean for those 10 beautiful days and drank, then stopped again. I hope that because I drank those 2 days that it doesn't put me back into withdrawal - the night sweats, etc. The last time that happened I had been drinking daily for AWHILE. But it got me to SR and so for that I am grateful. Ugh, why is my AV voice so loud and the practical one - which has served me well in a lot of ways just not this one - gets shushed. I really loved not drinking, I had no excuse other than selfishness (or rather, stupidity). Thanks for listening (and Weasel for your words of encouragement).

I really am a work in progress.

Yankee... This may sound funny but the voice that served you well is not the same as the addictive voice. Learning to see when it is the AV speaking and when it's just you is the skills taught in AVRT. I have learned to see when it's trying to outsmart me.

Take a look at AVRT and you will start to see that when you hear the difference you can make the right choice.

The secular section of this site has so much information. And the people that post there are awesome. Willing to answer your questions.

You can do this Yankee is there any way you can avoid these trips in early sobriety in favor of building sober muscles at home first

Time to work out a plan for these trips, alcohol is everywhere, but you can pre plan to ensure you don't buy or drink any!!

Go at things again!! You can do this!!

Don't give up and don't beat yourself up! Beating yourself up will keep u drinking. Let go and press on with your quest to be a non-drinker.

Thank you all so much, feels so good to be back and wake up sober knowing that I'll make good choices with food, focus at work, getting things done at home, etc. I can't avoid the travel, it's for work with some down time. I'm envisioning how much more I'll get out of the trip, how I could exercise more, eat less, spend less and feel better. I will also look more into AVRT. :-)

Welcome back Yankees

Look at what went wrong and think how you might handle it better next time?
