Smile Hangover after 4 days sober??? What the heck

I am on day 5 now and I have physically felt ok, until this morning. Woke up feeling like I had been hit by a train. Felt so crappy, but pushed through, got to work, had some coffee, ate something, and now I'm feeling better. For the last 6 months, as much as I was drinking, not ONCE did I wake with a hangover. I quit....and 5 days later I get a hangover??? This is God's way of saying "so there ya go, there's your hangover".

Possibly withdrawal symptoms or your body just adjusting/ reacting badly to not having alcohol in it. It does improve. Congrats on 5 days sober

First few weeks I felt almost jet lagged, completely wiped of energy and simply crashed when I came home from work!!

Let your body do it's thing, it's healing after years of drinking but it's gonna take time!!

Hang in there!!

I don't drink.

This morning I woke up tired, with a headache and dry mouth. Some days you just feel like crap, it's not necessarily a hangover. Don't see it as something so personal, just chalk it up to a morning of not feeling so great and move on.

Keep going, you are doing great.

thank you all, knowing I'm not alone has been the biggest part of the last 5 days. My poor boyfriend, I sat on the edge of the bed and I said "Jesus I have the worst effing hangover" and he popped up, his eyes the size of saucers and just looked at me like WHAT DID YOU DO?? hahahaha, I had to hurry up and tell him, no no no......we both laughed. God he has been so incredible through this. I'm very blessed

Hang in there. I felt somewhat hungover for the first month as bizarre as that sounds. I had drank heavily and daily for years. My body didn't even know what it was like to not be hungover (real hangover) or drunk. It gets better but I am still healing at almost seven months.

I had to hold onto the fact that you don't hear people with five years sobriety posting that they woke up with phantom hangovers. They are all healed up and we'll get there too.

I am only 9 days in, but have experienced both a racing mind and sleepless nights, and incredible lethargy. Things I guess I just expected to not be there, but I've flooded my brain with alcohol for two decades. I guess it makes sense that our neurotransmitters are going to play hell with us until we hit stasis. Good luck to you, and know you're not alone. We've got this.

A sober hangover is better than the real stuff. I get crappy mornings, but bounce back within the same day... Instead of 4-5 days.

I think our bodies can take the **** sometimes lol...headache from hell today which seems unfair without the fun of the night before ;-) think it's just withdrawals and frustration and our bodies getting used to something it's not used to...being sober. Stick with it and well done on day 5 xx

Hi Pack
For the first week I woke up feeling like I had a hangover and had to remind myself that I didn't drink the night before. I'm on day 15 and so far it's not better, but i'm hoping for the best.

It's so nice to see such a diversity of sober people. Some very close to the number of days I'm at, some years....this is great!

I'm at 9 days now!!! woohoo!!! still having little changes that seem wierd, but handling it. Last night was probably the first time I felt like I had a real craving, like I wanted it bad. So I went to bed. It worked! Meeting tonight, I can't wait!
