Day 12 - Everything is going well... But I kind of want a drink...
Hey guys,
It's day 12 for me, and I've been flirting with the idea of drinking... which is kind of not okay. I'm not feeling intense cravings, but the idea has been popping up for the past couple of days.
I've been going to AA every day (twice a day for the first week). I've found them very helpful.
I'm pretty sure I can get through this, but I wanted to reach out instead of just sitting on it.

Thoughts are thoughts - it's how we respond to them that counts waveridermke
Do you have a support system in place - not only SR but people to call in real life?
There are some great tips here too:

I have a few friends from my home group that I can call. I don't want to call them this late at night, so I thought SR would be a good place to check in.
I've taken a vitamin B complex and a bunch of water. Posting helped as well.
Update: Yeah, the vitamin B and water insta-helped. Feeling a lot more clear-headed.

Just don't do it. Period. I'm starting over again, after scores of times quitting. I am working on day 2. I don't know how many times that I've had 30, 60, 90 days or even a few months, only to start back over again. Been doing it for 30 years.
One of the few things that I have learned is that I never know how long that it will take to get that 1 day again. It might be a few days to a few weeks, or it might be a decade.
I work nights, so I'll be around til 7ish. Don't pick up. It's as simple as that. I'm telling you as much as my ownself right now. I've had that oh so hard to come by (again) moment of clarity, have 24 hours clean and sober. That is something to build on.
12 days is awesome! Hope to see you around. And reaching out is awesome too.

You might want to try the 2 meetings a day thing again. God knows that I would if my schedule allowed for it. Once, back in '98, I went to two or three meetings a day every day for several months (I was self-employed at the time and could make my own schedule). During that period, I didn't even think of drinking.
Of course, making three meetings a day to infinity is not the best way to stay sober. I have seen some people do it, but not my idea of recovery. Making a personal change is what is needed, and if you like the meetings, then the steps would be the next logical step. In the interim period, making as many as is doable sure won't hurt.
I, like you, am also finding this forum to be a big help. Stay strong.

12 days is brilliant. Dont give up all your hard work to feel like crap.
Reaching out is the best thing you can do. Play the tape to the end, go back to 13 days ago - feeling the hatred, guilt and anger. Or wake up tomorrow proud you got through it.
Keep at it.
