Me again.

I managed 54 days before Christmas & then slipped back into my old routine for about the same number of days. I wasn't planning to be "forever" at that point anyway.

Having said that my way of thinking about alcohol has changed & my long term plans with alcohol are very different. & certainly this site helped me change that way of thinking.

I'm currently on day 10 & planning to go for another 6 weeks leading to a big holiday where I will also have a milestone birthday. That will be the day that I plan to give up drinking for ever.

some wont agree with my way, but for me this planning ahead is how I'm trying it.

Jason

Thanks. I just want to add that the 54 days was the first time I really tried & hadn't really thought of alcohol as problematic up to then. more of an unhealthy thing to do. Now I do see it differently & the danger it can be.

I'm still very much a newbie. so 2 stints of extended abstinence, leading to the big on-going abstinence. no moderation. I realise now that doesn't work

Jason, there is always a reason to want to drink.

Hi Jason, and well done on day 10!

I kind of think of acceptance in two parts:

1)I can not drink normally, ever.

2)The first day of forever is today.

No need to wait brother stay the course!

I do get all of what people say. I kind of think some people here forget what it is like to be new to this & that it takes some time to understand how much of a problem it is to you & what your limits are or not etc. learn by your own mistakes. I thought moderation was a possibility. I realise now its not.

before Sept 1st I had never even thought about drinking as too much of a problem & had never considered giving it up forever.

for something to work & for it to stick it needs to be a considered decision at a time that is right. There is no point thinking: "ohhhh I drink too much, am I an alcoholic? possibly. Ok then today is day 1 of forever!" all in the space of a day.

I'm working this through & making a plan that I hope will work for me.

Hi.
Well good for you and having a “plan.” I really like the expression “Man plans, God laughs.” It seems to happen so often I end up chuckling as I try to not take myself too seriously.
Yes it may work for you, but a bit of reading on this site might show the error of your ways. Good luck.

BE WELL

Jason I wasn't trying to devalue your plan. I'm sorry if it came off that way.

I'm just saying you are ten days in. If ever there was the right time to commit for good, why not now? And plus you'll be sober and clear-headed and can hone your plan as you go.

Just a suggestion man whatever route you choose I hope it works for you.

All the best!
