Going on week 5 substance free
5 weeks is the longest I've been able to go before. Friday will be 5 weeks. I figure if I can make it this long, why go back? I have gotten into vaping instead of smoking. There's some controversy about that, but at least there's no tar entering my lungs.
My social life doesn't exist right now. I've had people message me about going out drinking and I've been ignoring them. They can see some of the stuff I put on facebook about stopping, so why are they even asking? My alcoholism is no longer a secret. Everyone knew I liked to drink, but I don't think they knew how deep it went.
One thing I miss is cooking with wine. I put it in pretty much everything and always drank what was left. I'm afraid to try that style of cooking now since it would be too tempting, and they don't make bottles of good wine small enough to use it all in one recipe. Maybe I'll try it again one day and see if I'm able to store the rest for next time.
I hope everyone's having a great new year.

Good job, PolarBlue. You are doing beautifully.
You are strong and courageous to stay away from drinking friends/situations.
I don't use wine when cooking any longer, either, and I don't miss it any longer. The meals didn't taste the same at first but I have become accustomed to the new taste.

Great work on 5 weeks Polar. It took me a while, but I started finding new friends and activities that didn't revolve around bars. To my surprise, that is actually the majority.
Regarding your cooking wine quandry, I have found that substituting some diluted cider or wine vinegar in recipes that call for wine works very well.
