For those in those first few days/weeks...
I figure I should write this being I went through it a little over 90 days ago. Here are some suggestions that got me through and I hope you can use them.
That first two weeks are physically and emotionally draining. Sleep as often as you can. You are healing, not being lazy. You will get your mojo back. Promise.
Eat what you want, as long as you don't have a pre existing health condition. Starting a diet is just torture right now. Your body is craving sugar and all the other weird stuff alcohol gave it. That will get normal too.
Don't think too much. That is a danger zone. If you find your thoughts racing, play a video game or read. Read a real book at night to help promote sleep. One made of paper. Glowing lights in your face keeps you awake. Drink some herbal tea.
Write down a gratitude list. This is so important because it changed your negative thought pattern into a positive one. I write 3 down in the morning, 3 at night. If I'm having a bad day it could be as simple as "I am grateful I own a pillow"....it really helps.
If you are doing especially bad mentally, find a meeting. AA has been working wonders for me. I always feel better after a meeting.
And most importantly, just for today...don't pick up!! Do not drink!!!

Your so welcome! I was just reflecting on those first few weeks. It sucks!!! Hardest thing I have ever done! It's so easy to forget. And I'll probably say the same about 90 days someday. I never thought it would get better. Everyone was right. It does!

Thanks for the upbeat advice Girl! I've had a relatively easy first 2 weeks. My problem stems from how much I drank not how often.I take medication & shouldn't drink for that reason alone. But of course I felt I can handle it,when in fact I could not. On top of things the meds made a 12 oz beer hit me like a 24oz can. I've done a lot of other positive things besides quitting drinking & I think that's been helping me make the transition.Good luck friend!

For someone at the very beginning of this journey, the intended audience, thank you. I just keep telling myself the only focus right now is not drinking. That's it. Everything else can wait. Appreciate the thoughts and suggestions! And a HUGE hooray for 90!!
