Yucky weather equals desire to drink

Hi everyone - Where I live, the weather is freezing cold, raw and damp. It is just adding fuel to my " I want a drink" fire. Almost out of work - I know I will make it though the night, but I feel some tears coming on. Yesterday was good - today - not so much. This is Day 5. I wish I could just curl up under the covers and go to bed, but with kids, it is not happening. Such a tough day - glad I've got this site.

Hi BBFK well done on day 5

There are lamps you can get from the pharmacy to combat the dark gloomy days might be worth booking a doc apt ?

try these links http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-cravings.html

Hang in there there will be hard days but better days are coming my friend

For me, any kind of weather was yet another excuse to drink.

Too hot? Drink to cool off
To cold? Drink to warm up
Too wet? Drink to not notice
Too dry? Drink to quench thirst
Too cloudy? Drink to console
Too sunny? Drink to celebrate....

And so it goes on and on.....until we realize that drinking makes it all worse, no matter what weather we are having. Glad you came here to talk it through first....that's a big step in staying sober. It will get better too...the first week is definitely the worst.

Scott got it in one! There's another expression too...'I wanted a drink on any day that ended in "y" '. That's pure stealth on alcohol's part. Welcome!

BeBetter I hear you loud and clear! It's been cloudy and dreary where I live for weeks now and it has made my sober efforts extra challenging but I'm finding ways to create my own sunshine.

Maybe you can think of ways to lift your own spirits? Hang in there. Keep grinding!

Can definitely relate. Like ScottfromWI, any kind of weather was a good excuse for me to drink. I have noticed when the weather changes or if the weather is uncomfortable, it triggers cravings, so I stay vigilant. One of the things that may help you is to drink warm tea. I find warm tea is a wonderful substitute. Hang in there!

The earliest days can be very daunting and involve some self doubts, you just have to realise today's fears pave way for future joy, cliche but true.

Sorry you're struggling. If you look at posts on this forum from back in July, you'll see the exact same posts: "Sunny days and patio-weather makes me want to drink". This is alcoholism. It's not the weather, it's not your job, it's not memories or relationships...it's your genetic disposition that makes you want to drink. Many of us, including myself, suffer from the exact same problem!

The good thing is that with the help of SR, and a solid recovery plan, we can manage our condition and lead very fulfilling lives! You've received some great advice here. Don't drink! Stay calm, carry on sober, and move forward. Day by day, we get to a brighter place.

Good for you for getting through Day 5.

It's really cold here today, too. I am so lucky to have a fireplace.

You guys are awesome....thank you. When I walked in my husband was making Shephards pie. Perfect for a day like today. I made some lemon ginger tea and I'm doing much better now. I mentioned the weather and drinking to my husband....he said the same thing. If it were sunny you would want beers on the deck! Kids hit the hay soon...on to day 6 folks

I grew up in Chicago where there was Spring, Summer, Fall and Drink......
Yes, use to be quite the trigger. Of course, since I have already made the decision I am alcoholic and don't drink I won't.

From Camelot = Oh no not in springtime, summer winter or fall! Oh never will I drink it, never at all! ( well that's close )

Yucky weather equals desire to drink would NOT BeBetterforkids or YOU

Peace, friend
