Serenity

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.....I really need this tonight. My wife may no longer have a job because of her own doing.......I want to choke someone and I want a drink but I will NOT let that happen. It is my sobriety and no one will take it from me!

Good job coming here and talking this through...drinking will just make it all worse. Jobs can be gained just as they can be lost, but that can be taken care of later. Just take care of yourself first...and stay close to SR.

Glad you posted, I have said the same thing many times. Let it out here or on a punching bag, and stay focused! Choking someone or drinking won't solve a thing and only cause more problems.

Glad you posted, USAF.

It IS your sobriety, and you are hanging on to it.

This too shall pass.

Stay strong man,

There's no situation bad enough that drinking won't make worse. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's job.

whenever I found myself in situations I would recite the serenity prayer to myself - especially focusing on the 'wisdom to know the difference' part

stay strong

I'm sorry that your wife lost her job.

Good for you for staying strong. The Serenity Prayer is so helpful for me.

I don't know that she lost her job yet. She just did something stupid that may have cost her the job.

Just awesome to see you here talking about it. Congratulations! For me, though I have the Serenity Prayer on the wall right next to my monitor, sometimes I need to pray for the person or thing that I'm not able to apply it to right then. Loosing my serenity is like walking through hell and praying for them moves my focus away from the anger that's causing it.

She still has her job. She did get terrible news today. Her brother has a brain tumor. Probably inoperable. I forgot my serenity prayer today when she said she was staying home from work today and told her that she was going to work and that staying home and getting drunk would not fix her brother. She told me she didn't say anything about getting drunk but I know that had she not gone to work, she would have drank, and I can't stand her when she is drunk!
