I hate me

hi everyone, so a year has gone by since I joined SR and here I sit this morning with the hangover from hell and hating myself so bad. I wouldn't treat a friend this way but don't know how to stop beating myself up. What on earth is wrong with me?

I have been there many times - the best thing is just to pick yourself up and give it another try. Its a new year and you can make a fresh start.

You have the same problem as all of us do GCG - you just haven't accepted it yet maybe?
Hate addiction, not the addicted.

I hope 2015 will be the year you find the strength to do what you need to do and not drink anymore

Your struggling to stop drinking if it has been a year i would strongly advise about rehab of some form to help you

i hope 2015 is a better year and the year that you finally get sober you deserve it

i cant drink safely or responsibly im an alcoholic and i live with that today through understanding & acceptance

i done everything i could to get sober it took me 3 months of trying until i realised the only way you can stay sober is to stay sober

i wish you luck & happiness

There is nothing you can do about yesterday but the good news is you can start today. Do what you need to do to start the new year in the way you desire to live...sober.

Make a plan - think of all those things you thought about doing for your recovery this year but didn't cos they were too hard or uncomfortable.

You may feel different about some of them now?

I have felt like you too, Goldcoastgirl. I hated myself just yesterday....so I'm only on day 2, but I have had years of sobriety in the past...I know you can do this too, just take it one day at a time and don't drink!

Goldcoastgirl, you're right, I wouldn't have treated a friend the way I treated myself for 40+ years, what the heck is wrong with us. However I think it's safe to say everyone here LUVS you, rootin for ya.

Many of us have been there and yes, don't be so hard on yourself! That doesn't help anything and isn't fair to you. Just pick yourself back up and press ahead!

GCG, I drank for 38 years and tried to quit dozens of times, usually only lasting a couple of days.

I'm finally making it stick. You can too, we're all here for you.

You can do it this year. Give it some decent time. You will see. Things get better. Good luck!

Forgive yourself so that you can accept you DESERVE a better life than drinking can offer. You can do it. Be kind to yourself the next few days.

I'm only 24 days in and life is already sooo much better. It was really hard the first 7-10 days but I went to lots of AA mtgs, checked in here, rested as much as possible & didn't drink no matter what! You can do it! Best wishes for a happy sober 2015!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Only a fellow alcoholic (and I struggled to type that word) understands the utter devastation I feel. I am always the hardest on myself x
