"These must be for your kids"
The title of this post is what the check-out lady said to me this evening as I was buying supplies for our quiet little New Year's Eve celebration. She had just finished scanning two bottles of sparkling juice.
"Yes," I said. "And for me too," I added quickly.
"Really?" she asked in borderline disbelief.
"Sure. My drinking days are over."
"Not even wine? How do you do that?"
"Trust me. I've drank enough for a lifetime. I'm done with all that nonsense now - those days are long-gone. I still celebrate...just in a different way which I'm learning is just as fun. More so in fact."
She shook her head, muttered something under her breath and kept on scanning the rest of my purchases. As I walked away (with my head held high and proud mind you), I thought about her statement:
"These must be for your kids."
She's was right in more ways than one. Yes, my kids will partake of the juice at midnight right along with me. But they also get an added bonus of having a sober, present mom. It's the best New Year's Eve gift I could ever give them...and me too!

Yaay HeartsAfire, yes 2014 was very special for us!!
My cashier at the store also noticed all my sparkly non-alcoholic drinks, & I also commented that I was sober & loving it.
"Ohhh, that's how I know you," she commented. Turns out she'd seen me at meetings, though I had never talked with her...
We are everywhere...
I send wishes to all of us here for a year of joy & growth & challenge & ease...
I resolve to take good care of myself, to nurture my body & spirit in every creative &
positive way I can in this coming year.
