Low

Low tonight.

In the house on my own, seen doc this morning, been on anti depressant for 10 days now not in a good place right at this moment. Feel like I can't see a way through the fog of being so down and miserable.

Is it even depression? I have no idea, it could be anything, all I know is that a task as simple as using the toilet is a monumental effort.

Glad you saw your doctor. What did he say?

The Holidays can wreak havoc on emotions.

I understand Stewy84, I have been having problems with feeling low too. I do know that it does pass though! We just have to tredge through this seemingly bottomless and hopeless feeling. I am about to force myself to a little workout because that usually helps. Something about getting the blood flowing.

Whatever you do just don't go back to the intoxication. This is a hard journey but the only path to being happy with life. Using these forums is such a wonderful tool. I look forward to seeing how the next few months go for you. How long have you been sober for?

60 odd days now

Dr said to take anti depressants which I'm told will take 4-6 weeks, been on them before , just don't remember being in this much turmoil last time out. It's not even 8pm and I'm in bed

Stewy, ask your doctor about adding some extra Vitamin D. It takes a while for the body to get back to balance. There ARE better times ahead. Don't give up.

Me too Stewy. I know that feeling very well. The anti-depressants are the best medication you can take for feeling down. It's the most effective way to combat the problem in the long term. The short-term excitement of picking up seems to alleviate the problem briefly, o so briefly, but we know the suffering just comes roaring back 2fold after the vapors evaporate. You're not alone my friend. Sleep as much as your body wants, it's healing.

(((Stewy)))) I have a lot of respect for you. Just hang in there. Try to get I a little exercise in the mornings, even just a short walk out in the natural light. Try to stay on a good schedule. For me, I needed a lot of structure in the early days. hated it. But I stuck to the plan and one day I caught myself, humming and singing in the kitchen while I cleaned up. It shocked me!

Hang in there, Stewy. We are hanging with you.

When I took anxiety meds, it took about 5 weeks to feel results.

Stay strong and on course, at the end you will be the one standing, not addiction.

Your mind isn't working with you right now, Stewy- it's against you. Try to let a part of yourself realize this. Do a search for urge surfing and mindfulness, it can help. This moment you're in is a just that, a moment, and this moment will pass.

If getting some sleep helps, do that! Sorry you're low right now but try to remind yourself that every day on the green side of the grass is a good one. There's hope, always.

Rest during this time is a good thing. Don't feel guilty for taking care of yourself. A lot of us are feeling blue at this time.

This is a key point I think. Initially I was so elated to be sober and when all my labs came back ok (i.e. no liver damage), that helped me put up with a lot of the post acute withdrawal issues. However, now that I'm in a day-to-day normal routine and the "newness" has worn off, some of the symptoms are almost as bad an initially. However, I'm seeing some good changes too...so those keep me going!
