I'm new here.
Hey everyone. Came across this site from a Google search. A bit about my self. I'm ex military, so yeah, I used to drink a lot. Then I moved to Las Vegas, and started drinking even more.
On Dec 20th 2014 I made the decision to stop drinking alcohol. Let's just say I had a wake up call, that did not involve anyone getting hurt.
Things I remembered form that night:
1) Holding a friends unloaded gun in the parking lot of a bar at 3am.
2) Making a horrible decision to drive home wasted.
3) Throwing up multiple times in my car while driving home.
4) Having to slap myself in the face a few times so I didn't pass out while driving.
5) Made it home without being pulled over.
I woke up late afternoon and was embarrassed for myself. I made the decision to quit drinking right then and there.
I used to be around a 5 day a week drinker and would drink to get drunk every single time. I live with family and the only income I make it my disability check from my time on active duty. I usually blow through that in two to three nights. But I have friends who are bartenders and they would never charge me as well.
One person I thought was a friend, called me a p*ssy and a loser for quitting drinking. I guess I won't be talking to him anymore. My other friends are giving me positive comments and praise for it. So far in this short amount of time, I've found I'm not tired all the time, I have slightly more energy, and expect that to increase as the weeks go on. Also, not having anymore stomach issues is nice.
Netflix, Hulu and the gym have helped me pass the time. I still find myself bored, but that will end soon when I start school in about a month.
So anyway. That's my story, hope to interact with you guys in the near future.

It's great to have you with us rx.
Drinking caused me to do many dangerous & out-of-character things. In order to be safe and sane, I had to give it up. No more pretending I can ever handle it. You can do this.

Hey rx4- Welcome!
It's great that you're taking note of the problem and doing something about it. I think you'll continue to notice how much better you feel as more time goes on. You might even find that you're sleeping much better, which can do wonders. For me, I use to only 'pass out' more-or-less, so that's one of the first things that I noticed for myself.
If you find that you need a bit of support, then this site can be a nice place to turn to. Especially if you're to the point that you're questioning yourself on your decision to stop drinking, which can be somewhat common in the beginning stages. If your lifestyle was pretty much centered around alcohol, one way or another (like mine was), then you just might need a place to come, to stay on track. You mentioned boredom, which is fairly common (and dangerous). This should get better as you readjust your life to that of a non-drinker.
Again, welcome and I look forward to seeing you around. I also wanted to thank you for your service.
Lusher
PS- That was a hell of a night at the bar, so good for you with your decision.
Welcome.
