Who's going to be on Christmas/New Year alone?

Hi, SR friends!

I've been reading through posts here and idea came to me - why not to create a thread for folks who will spend holidays alone?

I, actually, don't see anything "pathetic" or whatever in this. What is more - it is going my third sober New Year, and all these years I spent holidays alone. So, I have some experience)

We can throw our own sober party. Maybe, add a couple of our own traditions.

I am tired and going to sleep now, but I will come up with some ideas tomorrow)

Who's doing to join?

great idea MB, I thought of that too, but I believe that is the gist of Holiday Week thread Weasel started if I'm correct.
But having a sign out for xmas or NYE wouldn't be a bad idea. I'll be checking for sure.

I spent last new years eve alone. It was the first time I ever did that, and it was by choice. My wife was working, and though I had a few places I could have gone if I wanted, I wanted the experience of watching the ball drop on TV, all by myself. NYE was never a big holiday for me, as I'm not really the party type of guy. I had a nice peaceful evening.

I thus far have no plans for this NYE. My wife is a home birth midwife with a few clients due by the end of the month. Might be another alone one for me, or I might decide to do something with my her if we're together.

Great idea MB I spent Christmas alone some years back and had a great time. Whilst I will spend the morning with my son he is going to his father's in the afternoon which is fine. I agree-there is nothing sad or bad about spending Christmas alone though I have sympathy for those who have no choice and would like to be with others.

It's my 3rd sober Christmas and NY too

I'll go do Christmas with my folks. We always exchange presents and have an elegant meal. Standing rib roast this year. New Year will probably be alone. Except for y'all.

I've spent many Christmas and New Year's alone after growing up in a quite nice family and with friends where we celebrated these events. For me, holidays do not usually present any special challenge. This year, after many solitary Christmas experiences, I'm going to visit my elderly father, taking off tomorrow. But I am sure I'll check in here

I'll be spending both alone due to work and not having any family close by (that I speak to) so I'll be here, although my dog will be with me. Does that count?

I usually visit some relatives in the morning of Xmas and then this year I'll be spending the rest of the day on my own.

Count me in!!

I will be alone, although I am having a couple of people over for an early dinner. I have no family nearby.Just couldn't make a ham just for myself......but I am never really alone because my dogs are always with me.

I will be at home too - family are away and Mrs Dee is still with her family.
I've done it before - I quite enjoy it

I'll have Christmas dinner with two friends. Other than that the holidays will be me and my dogs.

I used to volunteer to work on xmas so I didn't have to spend it with my family. Then chilled at home alone. I worked xmas and t-day probably 2/3 of the times over the past twenty years. It became just another day for me.
This year I am going to visit with all family throughout the area over the next week. Because I may be far away next year Wife works xmas night. So I'll just be hanging out at home.

Christmas will be with my family. Our first without Dad. It really hit me as I finished wrapping gifts yesterday.

New Year's? I'll be here. Might take in a movie on NYE.

It's good to know there are good folks here on both holidays to help support one another.

I will be spending the holidays alone again. I have no family nearby so I am used to it. 3rd year in a row alone. I dont want to travel to visit family because they are drinkers and i would have to stay overnight in an awkward situation.

It's odd that I always had plenty of places to go during Christmas when I was an active drinker. Been in recovery for 3 years and never been so lonely in my life. I suppose this is a common transition many alcoholics have to make. Old relationships and burned bridges are tough to mend but it's this time of year when it really hurts.

Holidays are hard.....
