Massive urge to drink

I'm having the biggest, baddest urge to drink since I got sober a little over two months ago. It's been triggered by some hostile behaviour from our new neighbours, and my anxiety just shot through the roof. I got a big disappointment about something else yesterday, so the fragility I'd been feeling from that has combined with this new thing and I feel ******* terrible: panicked, upset, anxious, hurt, shaken. All these feelings will stop with my first sip of wine. Oh god.

...and then come back tenfold when that sip of wine wears off.







What's going on with the neighbors? Is it something you can change? Is there a different way to look at it? Kind of hard to offer suggestions.



Take a walk, take a hot shower, clean out a closet, call a friend, go to an AA meeting. Breathe.

It can feel like an attack from a grizzly bear for sure. Do not give up! Stay close here.

Don't drink. Think of the past mistakes you have made and walk yourself through those. Remember.Remember! This will pass! Please stay strong. 2 Months hell 1 Month is my goal, so I am looking up to you!!!!!!

Oh, but dear sweet snowbunting, those feelings will be exponentially worse tomorrow if you succumb.

Play some of those wonderful oldies-but-goldies you love so much. Dance.

Rejoice in your hard-earned sobriety.

Shut the door, close the windows on your neighbors. Focus on the good.

Fix something special for dinner; take a warm bath; meditate; climb that beautiful mountain again.

Be strong and victorious. You can do this, snowbunting.

I'm totally with Bimini on this. On sip will give you a fleeting feeling of calm, then all hell breaks loose. Alcohol is a big, fat liar.

Thanks for your help everyone, I really appreciate it. I've eaten dinner now, I wasn't hungry at all so forced it down. I'm still in the midst of huge waves of craving. A grizzly bear is a good comparison! I'm not enjoying this...

It will pass. Good job on getting a bite to eat. Can you do some breathing exercises? A few cycles will slow down your thoughts and calm you.

Eating chocolate. Still 50/50-ing about wine. You know that feeling when you know you'll feel awful about it tomorrow, and like you've thrown everything away, but you don't care enough about that? Because it's today that hurts? That's where I'm at now.
