it's the family thing

I need some humor folks, something to carry me through the next week on holiday with my family....I can hardly wait for it all to be behind me.

I don't think I will have a hard time not drinking through it, but I am afraid when it's all over I will say OMG!!!! I need to drown myself now to get over it....

wish I felt differently...I am trying to feel differently....if I can just find a way to laugh about it I think I will be a whole lot better.

Can you limit your contact with them? You don't have to go to every event to which you're invited.

Also, if you go, you can leave at any time. If you are going somewhere as a group, find ways to detach and spend some quiet time.

I agree.

Why participate in extended family activities if it will cause you to really want to drink?

I thought this was funny. I hope it helps. #6 isn't an option though.

those are great Strategery, thanks for the chuckle....I am driving six hours to take my mother to see her sister, we will be in a hotel room together for 4 nights and then I drive her home..it is a commitment I made and I cannot get out of it. I will be able to take walks to get away, although she and I will be pretty much joined at the hip the rest of the time....

I will also have my computer with me so I can connect to SR for life support!!

Stay close to SR - especially when you get back home, Trish

Drinking is killing ourselves and alcohol is poison - keep repeating that. It's not a coping strategy and it's not a reward.

thanks Dee, I will make that my mantra for the journey.

I can do this, and I can stay sober throughout.
