Screwed it up after 5 days
Screwed it up after 5 days
Well I never made it through Friday night sober. Ended up sitting outside the bottle shop for half an hour debating whether to go in.. Well of course I did. I drank a bottle of wine last night and knew I'd regret it instantly. I'm not sure why I would do this to myself so soon..I was kidding myself that it's bit that bad as I would normally drink 2 bottles + on a weekend but i feel so ashamed.. Sorry for the rant..
No need to feel ashamed - you're among friends Nic. Most of us have done the same thing. Sometimes we need further convincing that there's nothing in that bottle for us. Sounds like you learned something and are ready to move on. We're with you.

Honestly, Nic, the fact that you posted this tonight makes me confident that you will grow from last night's experience. As others have said, so many of us (including me, my goodness) have gone down extremely similar paths. I wish you the best, my friend.
Thankyou all so so much. I just called up my Mum and told her about my drinking.. I've been scared to do this but she was so supportive.. I feel blessed to have found this forum.. I will try again from today.. X
Well done Nic! Good for coming back here. I've had that war with self. Pacing back and forth in front of the liquor store/aisle in the store. Then taking the bottle even though I promised myself I would drink.
Maybe next time if you find yourself tempted use the app and reach out. Or call your mum? You don't have to tell her why you are calling but the distraction of calling may derail your urge.
Keep coming back.

Well done, Nic! I've very early in, but I can attest that this community is here for support. Twice (including just tonight!) I felt very close to drinking. Posting and getting support and encouragement really helped me avoid that temptation. Maybe part of your plan can be that if you feel the urge again, you'll post on here first?
PS: Good for you for telling your mom. That was very brave.

You're back, that's what's important. Use this as a learning experience. What triggered you? How can you handle it next time? I agree with those who encouraged you to come on here when you're tempted. It's saved me several times.
It's a new day today , saturday .
I hope you make it a green tick on the calendar , one red cross in 6 days is unfortunate but i have known people recover from worse .. i hope you have only one red cross but in 7 days tomorrow ..
I used to make sure i'd done my shopping in the week and that the car had fuel , so i could go to work friday without any cash in my pocket and no bank cards . If i had no means to buy drink i couldn't sit in the parking lot pondering the question .
Bestwishes, m

Nic in the early days of recovery I would come straight to SR when I felt a bad craving. Sometimes I posted about it other times I read around but every time it helped.
An important thing is to change things. Sitting outside the bottle shop for half an hour would make me give in, change it up by going for a walk or run (depending on your fitness), or get absorbed in doing something you enjoy or simply come here and post.
