Nearly 3 weeks sober

Have a few questions..........................

A bit about myself, I have been a binge weekend drinker and sometimes through the week for near on 15 years(now 31). Been off a couple of months now and again. been erratically drinking. I am also bipolar.

1 Should I still have any shakes being off it nearly so long.

2 I have been exercising hard and have been getting a rash on my forehead, and on my cheeks from sweating is this just toxins coming out my system or just a simple sweat rash because I never got this in high school when I was extremely active playing football(soccer) and basketball.

3 Does cognitive impairment I may have improve over a period of time?

I may add questions as hopefully this thread develops

good luck to all in your journey to sobriety

Hi, Big! I'm still a newbie so I don't have any answers for you. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, though. I have wondered about some of those things, too.

Hi bignasty :=]

Three weeks is really cool, well done. I'm just short of three weeks, myself. I guess we're all different, ya know, but the three things you're experiencing don't seem too unusual. I still had the shakes a wee bit a few days ago- although I'm not sure whether that's emotional stuff or DTs. As far as sweating goes I haven't had a rash, just really gross hyper-sweating. Like gross! It's almost back to normal now.

As far as cognitive impairment goes, yeah it does improve, at least it did for me. I was sober for four months previously and maybe about a month in it started to come right. I'm not sure what causes it to be honest- I think maybe the fact that I'm processing so much more info cos I'm not blind drunk so often may have something to do with it ;=]

Take care of yourself. Oh and welcome too :=]

Thanks SDH hopefully we get our answers

Did you have full blown DTs? How long were you hospitalised for? And thank you

Oh, me? :=]

I didn't do hospital or the doctor even- which was pretty dumb to be honest. I suppose I spent three days in bed sweating and shaking and all that good stuff.

Other folks will be able to give you some more info on hospitalization :=]

Yes but we can give advice on treating yourself very gently and lovingly during the early periods of recovery.

My doctors told me it would take 6 to 8 weeks to begin to have the more longer term effects of alcohol leave my system. So just be patient with the feelings your having.

Also, I would say exercise, but be gentle. Listen to your body, what it tells you.

As far as the rash - have no idea -

Take it easy, love yourself.

Hi Bignasty, well done on three weeks, awesome

If you're worried a quick visit to your doc should put your mind at ease.

Thank you everyone for your kind messages.

Sorry Anna it wasn't medical advice I was seeking it was just other people's experiences. I must say I have a very addictive personality and done 15 hours HARD training this week from MMA and gym(weights) work. So maybe I am pushing too hard but will take the weekend off to recover.

AndyRoo I don't think you experienced DT's just withdrawal, DT's can kill you and you would be experiencing hallucinations with very bad confusion etc and can kill you through strokes, heart attacks etc, I am not saying what you went through was bad, but DT's are a different kettle of fish, I went through them at the age of 26 or 27 and was hospitalised and on ALOT of diazepam for 6 days. It took 4 days after an 8 day binge for them to manifest. They rarely manifest after stopping drinking after a few hours or a day and usually take anything from 3-10 days to happen although 7-10 days is quite rare also.

Thank you Audra for giving me confidence that I may feel A LOT better just after the new year and on my birthday(start of January) which will be between 6-8 weeks, so looking forward to a sober new year and birthday and a different mindset

Thank you also JanieJ will keep plugging away at this

you really need to see your Dr if you're concerned...others can share their experiences but I'd hate for that to keep you from getting any professional help you might need.

The only experience I can share is the cognitive impairment bit...it took quite a long time for it to come back to what I consider was a normal level, but it did.

It may have come back sooner had I not avoided going to the Dr.

Thank you Dee and Soberwolf

The shakes are erratic I can not have them and then bang they come out of nowhere like waking up one morning with them, then going two days without them. It may be the tablets I am on o maybe a touch of anxiety.

Hope yous are all doing good

Bed time here in Scotland good night and God bless you all
