I sleep soooooo much better sober!!

I think this is going to be my chief motivator to stay sober. When I drank, I would wake up in 4 hrs like clockwork every night, and my heart would start racing so I couldn't get back to sleep. Coupled with shift work and rotating shifts, I was averaging 0 - 4 hrs of sleep a night.

Now, I sleep a full 8 hrs if I want to!!

Me too! I agree that the sleeping is divine. Sometimes I do wake up in the middle of the night, but not sweating and with my heart pounding like I did when I drank. I'm only 66 days into this, but I still wake up every morning thinking, wow!

Totally agree with this. I'm on day 62 and sleep GREAT every night now.

Woke up last night at 4:00 AM...And was ABLE to fall back to sleep quite easily.

That would have NEVER happened before.

Agreed. Heart racing, complications, whatever you call them I had them too. Most nights around 1-2 in the morning. Coupled with the anxiety of having to get up for work at 5:30am sleep was not happening. It eventually got to the point where the heart complications were happening the next day too. Scary stuff. Glad that's over with!

Drunk sleep used to seem so nice. heck I would do it for like 12-14hours. Now I am starting to have real sleep. Thank God for real sleep.

Going to bed sober is one of my favorite things about not drinking! And I agree that even when I wake up, I can actually fall asleep again. That never happened in the past...if I woke up very early, it was always for the day. Thanks for the reminder, and congratulations on feeling awesome.

And not only that, when you wake up, it's without a hangover!

Same here exactly. My last 2 months were 25 hrs. per week max. I started sleeping through the night after 3 days sober and still do.

I know! Sleeping all the way thru without waking up? Priceless! And dreaming again is awesome, even if they are a little bit freaky at times.

Cherry on top of being sober in general. Waking up at 2 am sucked. Don't miss the racing heart one bit!

Sounds weird because I am only on day 2, but last night I actually slept without drinking first and that's really exciting. I still feel shaky and my heart is racing, but boy was it nice to show myself that I could in fact sleep without having even a buzz. Hearing that all of you have been sleeping well after getting sober really motivates me to stick with sobriety. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Here, here! Sleeping is fantastic. When I was drinking I was just passing out every night, waking up a couple of hours later parched and needing water. Maybe get back to sleep, maybe not. Sometimes I would wake up and think a couple more drinks would knock me out but that just led to another 4 hours of drinking.

Yes, the sleep is good now. Keep it coming!

Absolutely. Sleep is a huge motivator for me too. It's one of the things I remind myself of when I play the tape forward if I'm contemplating drinking. My sleep is affected even after only a couple drinks. Without alcohol in my system, my body gets the rest it needs, and I fall Into the quality type of sleep.

Among all the other things, alcohol immediately robs me of the sleep I need for my body and mind to function effectively.

I never even realized the racing heart was from the drinking until recently either, I thought It was anxiety or something. Definitely from the alcohol!

It's so nice to find people and stories I can relate to on here:-)

How did we ever cope daily with with such awful poor sleep...it was like a perpetual madness, alcohol induced sleep deprivation...

Couldn't agree more - I used to dread going to bed without being drunk and now I actually look forward to (soberly) drifting off into peaceful sleep
