Hi.
YES it’s a start and everything needs a starting point when there is a goal ahead.
I needed several bumps by remembering “if we don’t pick up the first drink we don’t haveto try to get sober AGAIN and we don’t drink one day at a time in a row.”
Seeing that alcoholism is a progressive disease it is halted as long as we don’t drink it and life does get so much better.

BE WELL

If you keep going in 3 hour lots you will end up with years.

I am at 2.5 years and still sometimes focus on 3 hour lots when times are tough.

Good luck and keep trucking

Now I am doing one day at a time

3 hours lots or one day at a time is all that matters is staying sober.

Day two and I am still very down on myself and ashamed. I started reading a book by Allen Carr yesterday that really helped me quit about 2 years ago for the longest period in my life. I am motivated to beat alcohol once and for all this time.

Keep going, count the minutes if you have to. I sometimes have to break it down into small chunks of time. I say "just hold off on that drink another 15 minutes" and then when 15 minutes are up if I am still fighting the craving I go through the same thing again, just putting it off minutes at a time. YOu can do this. Be happy for your successes big or small and always keep pushing ahead towards your goal.

You don't have to wish it can be you with months or years of sober living - you can make it you.

What's your plan? What will you do instead of drinking?

My five years without a drink started with three hours sober...

Keep it going.

Exactly - no one starts at 1 year 2 years or 5 years it all has to begin somewhere. Like all good things it takes time but you are on the right track for sure. The first few weeks seem like an eternity. I often found myself counting the days and thinking, "jeez its only been 3 weeks!" Its like staring at a clock and wondering why time is passing so slow, but when you get on with your life and the burden is lifted from your mind the time passes so fast.

There is a reason that it is a moment at a time. These early times are the hardest, I congratulate you for getting through the struggle. Keep on, you can do it!

I can't remember the number of times I have started this journey and lasted only a brief time, this time I am determined. Each day is a new opportunity to make a change so please stick at it!

It's not at all pathetic that you are attempting to get sober. We all had to start somewhere. We were all once at the three hour mark

Have you come up with any sort of plan to follow?

Pathetic?? You are not at all pathetic, you have decided to be sober for the rest of your life. That instant when you made that decision, was the start of your new life! Be happy and proud of these 3 hours, because they are the beginning of something much better and much more fulfilling!
