Day 1 and counting. ..
Hello all, this is the first day of my latest attempt at sobriety. I went through a hospital detox and a 28 day rehab program in 2006 and managed to stay sober for about 5 months but then slowly sank back into addiction.
The last few years have been really bad again and I desperately want to stop drinking once and for all. I've never used a support site like this so please forgive me if I do or say the wrong thing. I'm looking forward to spending time on this site and hope I find it as helpful as so many others with addictions have. Wish me luck.

Hi! And definitely best wishes for you. This is also my first time on a site like this and I'm sure I'm doing all kinds of things wrong. For one, I'm using other peoples threads as a diary it seems like ( sorry everyone) it just seems to help to ramble on and relate to others.
Sorry to hear about your relapse, but you had 5 months, so you know you can do it.
I have complete faith you can beat this addiction

Anyway, fortunately you said "latest".
Posting here really helps me, as well as reading and responding to other posts. I write a bit about myself every day. It helps me, and perhaps others as well. Writing it down for everyone to read really helps me.

Thank you!
Wow what a lovely welcome! Thanks to everyone who posted back to me. It means a lot to me as I don't have a great deal of support in my "real" life. I think my family (who are all I have left) are sick of my problems and not sure this isn't just another doomed attempt at sorting myself out. Don't get me wrong my family are great but I feel I've let them down so many times in the past that their patience has worn quite thin by now.
Day 2 was ok, went to work and got through the day fine but still feeling fragile. Did some yoga when I got home which really helped. Could still murder a 6 pack though
I hope everyone else on SR managed a sober day too. Going to bed now and I hope I can sleep. That's always tough for me without the grog at first. But at least if I'm tired tomorrow I won't also be hungover and hoping not to throw up on the train into work!
Thanks again for the kind words, you all make me feel stronger.

Welcome Paddy - by the time you read this you'll be on day 3
I hope you find this forum as helpful and supportive as I am - keep logging on and reading and posting - the whole site is inspiring and provides great inner strength!
Like you I had a much earlier attempt at sobriety in 2005 for 4 1/2 months trying a programme. I've found the help from SR so much more inspiring that I'm even beginning to enjoy the painful parts too
