Day one, don't know where to start

Hi,
I've been struggling with infertility for a few years now and I'm using alcohol to numb the pain. I don't really want to stop drinking but know I have to if I want to be a mum. Today is the first day in weeks I haven't had a drink. Not sure where to start. I don't feel comfortable going to a meeting or talking to family or friends. Don't know what to do...

Hi poppy, welcome to the site. Maybe read around a little and learn from the experiences of others, there is a wealth of information here. Maybe search for AVRT and read up in that and maybe also learn about AA and consider attending a meeting. While you do this please make a promise to yourself to stop drinking.

Hi Poppymay, I'm glad you found us. Lots of help and experiences here for you, keep posting.

It's just one small baby step at a time. I kept that firmly in my head when I first stopped and remember it all comes to pass and the rewards of being sober far outweigh the pangs of wanting to drink.

Thank you, I think the most difficult part is that my husband doesn't believe I have a problem as he sees our drinking as normal. I will keep reading for inspiration.

Open the Big Book and read the Forwards and the Doctors Opinion.
Read it 2 times a day for a week. Talk to your sponsor about it.
Share about it in the AA meeting. Bring up step one each and everytime you hit up an AA meeting. Show up early for the meeting, and stay late.
These are actions of a member of AA who is going to recover!
