An anology
I made it thru the day... TG 2104 is over. Many thoughts, many moods... I have a blind cat named Katie. She is the most loving cat of all of my cats. She tries to fit in with the other sighted cats, but she can't. She can't jump or run or play like the others, yet she remains the most gentle and loving of all. She has what they used to call a "handicap". I relate to her in the sense that I also have a handicap called alcoholism. And my affliction has presented problems in my life, like Katie's blindness. However, I feel that it has made me more attuned to other people's problems as well. Sometimes it takes an affliction or handicap in order to have the ability to understand others and relate in ways not otherwise possible.
Just some thoughts on this TG. Good night all

That's certainly true for me AF. As horrible as my drinking days were, I know I wouldn't be the person I am now if they'd never happened.
Katie sounds adorable. Glad she has someone kind to love her.

Well done AF....
I have come to see this alcoholic 'handicap' as a blessing in the powers it has given me.
May you find the blessing as well.
Once you begin to see it, no longer will you consider this a handicap.
Ill bet your cat gets it....

Well done artfriend and great analogy. I don't think I would be half as empathetic with people had I not had to start working on me and the only reason I've had to work on me is in an effort to stay sober. So when I go to AA meetings and hear someone describe themselves as a grateful alcoholic I finally understand what they mean.

Thanks everyone! Yes, Katie doesn't let her disability get her down. She inspires me all the time! I hope that as I get more sober time under my belt I can view my alcoholism as a challenge that I overcame and that has left me stronger and more compassionate.
