Day 8 complete, fear transforming into courage!
The fear and guilt I used to feel has been replaced with gratitude, courage, and excitement about really living my life to the fullest and loving the people around me with all of my heart.
The triggers and chatter are still there. However when I shine a spotlight of awareness on the gremlin in my mind and focus on the present moment instead of the past or future, I'm naturally experiencing appreciation. More importantly, I'm not ignoring this.
Thanks for being here to allow me to share this. I've studied mindset and nlp for years and I'm thinking avrt may be for me. Thoughts?

Your post made me smile You totally get to choose what ya wanna feel. I am happy to hear you are choosing positivity.
AVRT has been a tool for me. It will definitely help you understand the awareness of that "chatter" in your head and put it in it's place. Have you read Rational Recovery? It can help you understand it more Also there are threads here on it too.
8 days is fantastic!! Keep it up

Congratulations, David, on choosing to get sober and on your success. That was my experience too, that choosing to frame this life change in a way that was empowering and liberating made a whole bunch more sense than to do it in any other way. Saying, 'I have chosen to be sober and free from alcohol', was a lot better than 'I need to stop drinking because it is messing me up'. We can always decide to get just a little more messed up and drink again, but that one drink will take that freedom away and stop us from achieving what we are capable of achieving, what we deserve to have and deserve to be.
Mindfulness and a focused non judging awareness of the present is a very powerful tool in my opinion too.
There is a lot of discussion of cognitive issues around addiction and NLP type stuff in the Secular Connections forum and on AVRT. You will get a lot of support there for you too. Onward!

Well done David! Keep going Mr... I'm not far behind.
Soberwolf, I saw The Chimp Paradox in a bookshop the other day and flicked through it. I made a note to go back and take a closer look. Would you recommend it?
