Day 5, just need some encouragement please
Hi All,
I've been signed up to this forum for a few years now, detoxed, relapsed, detoxed, relapsed etc. I am now on detox, have been on Librium for the past couple of weeks, had a couple of mishaps and am currently on Day 5 alcohol free. I am really really struggling with this overwhelming feeling of awareness/alertness etc. I am so used to drinking, especially straight after work to numb any feeling at all. I am 36 and alcohol has certainly robbed me of the last 10/15 years. I have alot of support, but just want this horrible feeling to do one and start feeling in control and comfortable with that.
Hope you are all well,
Best wishes
Amy

Hi Amy,
Congratulations on your sobriety and your decision to change your life.
It's normal to be really scared and unsure in early recovery. For me, it was pretty much uncharted territory and took some getting used to.
I'm glad you found us.

Hey Amy,
Welcome!
Stay close to SR. There are tons of supportive people here.
You have made it to day 5...some may say this is the hardest day physically. This can be the last time you have to go through a day 5 EVER again. That should serve as a relief in itself! Keep going! You have come so far. Whatever you do, don't drink! That's your ONLY job right now, don't drink.
You can do this, Amy

Hey Amy- I just wanted to offer some support as well.
I think 'growpath' pretty much summed up everything I would say, so I'll just offer my support and echo what was already posted. And, as mentioned, you're only job is to NOT drink. Stay strong and spend time in here when needed.

Amy, I'm right there with you on day 5. Similar patterns of past behavior of numbing out myself and not feeling. Now that I'm slowly am feeling, it's a bit over whelming. I'm just taking it one day at a time and trying not to worry about what might happen. Thank you for posting.
In the first couple weeks of sobriety I kept saying two things - "I feel so raw." and "I want to crawl out of my skin."
I just had to tough it out. It is uncomfortable, no way around that. We all know that feeling - like I just couldn't possibly process all these emotions.
I did and I can.
So can you! Hang on.

Hi Amy, Welcome.
I'm in early sobriety as well, and also have had many failed attempts. Happy to be at over 3 weeks so far. I have had some VERY difficult days but I try to focus on one thing I appreciate about being sober everyday.

Hi, Amylouise
It's normal for your emotions to be all over the place at first, I know mine were. I'm on day 41 now and feeling a lot calmer. x

Day 12 now!
Hi All, just wanted to update and say I've reached day 12, I will post longer thread on November groups. Thanks for all your support, I don't know how I'm finding this strength and I'm scared of cracking but keep praying. Warmest wishes to all, Amy xx
hi Amy,
welcome and great to hear of the 12-day update!
one thing that really helped me was to get engaged with others on a forum and talk there daily.
your post count in a few years is 18...do you have support somewhere else, at home, with friends, in meetings?
seems like years of relapse/detox cycles would be totally devastating, and possibly sharing with others daily might be for you the big help it was for me, too.
way to go on 12 days, and no, you're not alone!
