Master of the Universe, Queen of the Kingdom. I like to think that I'm still fun and charming, probably even more so without the slurring and double vision.

I am Norwegian by nationality and I know that Scandinavians have higher alcohol consumption levels than that of some other countries.

Don't speak any Norwegian tho so did not understand what they were saying in the commercial. Was it just he drank too much or ??

Yea, always the funniest - wittiest guy in the room. What a joke.....

The other thing I have come to realize over the years, is the lie about - Everybody was drinking as much as me! Turn out that's simply not true. I would justify by thinking - this is normal for people who want to have fun.

Love your posts.....

ArtFriend, the message is "sometimes the last person who knows you've had too much to drink is yourself".

...and we're huge binge drinkers here, but the alcohol consumption is going up, as we're adding the drinking habits of the rest of Europe. Binge drinking on the weekends, in addition to a couple of glasses of wine on the weekdays... The government is very concerned...

Oh how true is this!!!

I was also full of confidence, a social genius, funny and a great dancer...in my mind.

Then some friends filmed me...and my partner said "no one drank as much as you, but you couldn't see it. I told you you shouldn't drink anymore, but you felt you needed more"

I always need more, doesn't matter how wasted I am. Awful.

He was a legend in his own mind!

Norway is so socially progressive. I wonder how to government would approach this? In the USA most people don't want the gov in there business even if it is for their benefit. Do they know why drinking is on the increase there in Norway?

Yep. That dude in the video is me. I thought I was so charming and fun to be around. Maybe at one point I was before I was an alcoholic, but I didn't get the memo when I was no longer the cool guy and was just a drunk.

There are quite a lot of similar campagnes in Sweden. I suppose because both in Sweden and Norway the state has a strict monopoly on alcoholic beverages. In sweden over 3,5 % alcohol, not sure about Norway.

I would second the opinion, that binge drinking has always been accepted during the weekends, but now people also take to a more continental drinking with wine or beer during the week. So that's troubling.

4.7% here, Dallow, apart from that Sweden and Norway are basically the same I think.

...and ArtFriend: We're fighting the government on this one. Every election, this is a huge topic. I'm happy about all the restrictions now though. No beer in stores after 8 pm, all the licenced (government run) liquor stores close at 6 pm. 3 on Saturdays (no alcohol on Sundays - bars and restaurants excepted though).

My first week sober I would count the hours.

Not going to work. My city used to be "dry" as in no sale of any type of alcohol. So everyone just drove over to the next town that was wet. DUH. About a year ago they got a clue and went wet. Sales are "robust" as they say. People will always find a way to get booze.

We go to Sweden, ArtFriend. Did I mention the prices..? In stores beer starts at $4 a can, wine at $15 a bottle. Taxes are high to keep us sober. "Unfortunately" wages are high too.

Can't legislate people's behavior. Prohibition was a colossal failure. Now Sweden is getting your tax income instead of Norway.

I agree, ArtFriend. Hence the need for scare tactics and campaigns I guess.

I recall when I was in hi-school we were made to watch a film called, "Signal 30" in driver's ed class. It was a gory account of teenage drivers at accident scenes.
It was supposed to"wake us up" and put us on the straight and narrow. It didn't stop me from drinking and driving. As well intentioned as these types of campaigns may be, in the end - and I love this expression - you can't legislate stupid.
