OT: My Inner 14 Year Old and Self Care

So here I am, 45 years old, and I just bought PlayStation 4 and Grand Theft Auto V.

I guess boys will be boys. But over the past 6 months or so, I've been doing a lot of self care. Central to that is getting my arse back in the gym after not taking care of myself throughout grad school while also working full time. These days, after dropping all the weight I gained in grad school, I look at least 10 years younger. Which is pretty cool.

But I have to admit that playing crazy video games like GTA V is also a good way for me to burn off stress. This year at work has been crazy. A good crazy, but still crazy, and it's nice to be able to blow off some steam doing things in GTA V that you can't do in real life -- drive 150 MPH, blow up cars in your way, pick fights with people, etc.

Sometimes it's good to embrace your inner 14 year old...

Girls just sing Beatles tunes full tilt with their hairbrush-microphone.

Hey, if it's The Beatles, then that's cool, too.

Zo, I sing Led on alternate days.

Led Zeppelin is still my all time favorite in many ways. "Ramble On" is my favorite song of ever...well, "Silent Night" is a close second, but I don't sing it in say, July.

I understand going back to singular activities. I started riding a bike in recovery after my divorce. My bike and I had been really close until I became so depressingly overwhelmed in my marriage. It's good to remember how it was before the crazy. My challenge since has been how to let anyone in following that horrible soul-crushing experience. I've been divorced for 25 years and not willing to settle for the stuff I keep running into. That's cool with me, my peaceful existence suits me and I think it was meant to be this way.

Allow me to geek out for a minute.

This variant of GTA V has an optional first person viewing mode. So one of the first things I did last night was hijack a car (complete with a nice view of pulling out the driver and throwing him to the ground), accelerate to a ridiculous speed, and then take a jump off a freeway on-ramp...

...and then at the apex of my flight, I jumped out of the car.

It was pretty damn funny in first person mode, tumbling through the air before dying on impact.

How old am I again? Fourteen or 45?

LOL that is awesome. My sister is police, they have a little town where they do trainings. They drive like complete nuts and shoot each other with paint ball guns. While it is training, she has a blast (although she hurts the next day LOL).

Myself, I was rocking out with my 9 yr old last night while she was putting my hair in ponytails....many ponytails.....fun times! At least you are going back to 14, I am traveling all the way to 9!!!!

Good for you, enjoy your games!

I am 14 again when I get together with girlfriends that I grew up with...we start out as mature, civilized adults that we are...and then within an hour we are back in 10th grade laughing at ourselves and howling over the antics we thought were "cool" at the time.

Well done, Zoso, under this over 60 body is a teenager dying to get out. Sometimes I mistake her for indigestion.

My old band is like that, too. Our ages range from 37 to 46, and when we get together socially, our behavior is atrocious. Completely and utterly infantile. It's a lot of fun.

It is the funniest video game of all time. And incredibly violent.

I wish I had a game system besides a Wii. I could use an incredibly violent and gory video game to release some stress right now.
