Drinking dreams changed to caffeine dreams...

Hi folks. During the whole of recovery, I've had the usual nightmares of having a dream where I'm drinking or have somehow relapsed and in the dream realize it with a drunken stupor or something similar.

Now after (tomorrow 17 months sober) I notice I no longer have these dreams. But instead, I still have nightmares, the dread, the feeling is exactly the same. The depression and stress of the relapse is there. This time the theme however is a relapse on caffeine. I accidentally eat a few pieces of chocolate in the dream instead of boozing, and feel the same regret. This is strange but apparently also caffeine can cause these same kinds of dreams or nightmares.

Anyone else had a switch in the nightmare themes?

I had one about a month ago. Only the dream was I had a job
It's funny you bring this up because I was thinking about it for that past couple days. I haven't had a lot of dreams that were outlandish or crazy for a while now. In fact I don't remember most of my dreams lately. And I get solid sleep.

I recall months ago having out of this world dreams and some nightmare dreams. But the longer I've been sober - almost 11 months - the lesser they became. I think I had only one drinking dream. It involved my father who's been dead for almost 13 years. I recall hiding a drink from him while I lie on the couch.

Yes. I notice the same pattern. The longer sober the less the weird dreams, especially about alcohol. Funny that you mentioned dead relatives in dreams, many of my nightmares have had some dead relatives in them and in those dreams they were extremely hostile.

All this obviously tells about the quality of sleep, which improves over time. One more reason to never drink again.

Nope.. still have dreams i'm drinking and in the dream I know i'm not supposed to be. The guilt in the dreams is strong. I always wake up feeling relieved that it was just a dream.
