In recovery, any and all sobriety methods have helped me, as well as spiritual readings and self-help books.
Life is not figured out, it's a mystery. I don't think anyone ever lays on their deathbed and says, "Well, thank goodness I know everything."

Love AVRT, simple and beneficial...In the beginning I used everything, I went to AA meetings, SMART meetings, read and watch so much stuff on addiction...
Read everything here on SR...my brain was a mess and not long after withdrawal,
I developed PAWS and my comprehension of most stuff was minimal.....AVRT was a easy fit for me...read all about it here and you can also look into RR and a big plan, again simple...well, not so simple because it eliminates any future idea of ever drinking again and accepting that is big....the good news is you don't really have to worry about the nagging idea of drinking in the future...baby steps. Learning about AVRT taught me how to tell my AV where to go.

mistory,
AVRT (Addictive Voice Recognition Technique) is not a method as such but a technique for dealing with "the voice" that tells you/us crazy stuff such as "hey! you've been sober five days! clearly you have mastered this and proven you can stop and all is good. therefore, this is the perfect time to have a drink or ten because clearly there is no REAL problem here!"
it is a good tool for when the mind starts spouting nonsense.
as a tool, you can incorporate it into other "methods".

Mistory, you have everything you need to quit drinking for good, except maybe the knowledge that you can do it. It was hard to understand this after decades of drinking, but I realized that I wasn't a bum - I used to be able to figure things out, set goals and achieve them. I did it before, and dangit, I was going to do it again.
I made the decision that the last drink I had was the last drink I would ever have. And it was. You can do it too. Are you ready to make your plan about continuing to use alcohol?

Rational Recovery/AVRT worked for me. It enabled me to be in a position of power in my recovery, which is a wonderful thing.
As everyone else has said, the Crash Course is great. There's a slideshow type thingy called "A Bullet for my Beast", and just that 15 minute presentation was all I have needed to stay sober for two years. Well, that and all my friends at SR!
Just woke up for a pit stop (don't wanna be rude). But realizing what the av voice is - is helping me along. Maybe not for you but a new concept for me. I'm so new at this I don't wanna give advice but avrt is a new concept and eye opener for me. Fresh start today Tuesday even though my crazy boss is...well... Crazy.
I did the "crash course." It was all I needed. I never looked back. I was going into my third month and going to aa every day. I was leaving aa meetings thinking I don't want to end up like that after x years. I thought I would be better off drinking. Sorry, I know it works for some and some need it. But I was aghast at how people with many years of "sobriety" acted there.
I discovered AVRT. I also spent a LOT of time on SR.
I will add that I attended a meeting a couple nights ago just to say hello to some people. Nothing has changed.
