5 steps forward, 1 step back..

Monday night I drank. I purposely drove to the liquor store and bought vodka. I was aware of what I was doing. I just decided to do it.

After I was half in the bag, I started a thread stating AA wasn't working for me and that I was going to start AVRT. That was only half true.

It's not that AA wasn't working for me, I wasn't working it. I went in with half measures. I see that now. I do have a book on AVRT coming and plan to use it in conjunction with AA.

So I went 5 days without a drink. Drank on day 6 and am now back on day 2. I'm looking at this as out of the last 8 days, I drank one. And I know why.

This monster is always lurking, waiting for us to let our guard down. I went to a meeting last night and will continue to go every night. The proof is in the pudding... I wasn't drinking when I was going. Time to right my ship again.

It helped me during this period to hear the words "KEEP COMING."

We just need to not drink one day at a time in a row.

BE WELL

ThatHombre,

Dust yourself off & start over.

It's not that AA wasn't working for me, I wasn't working it. I went in with half measures. I see that now. I do have a book on AVRT coming and plan to use it in conjunction with AA.
The above is very insightful. It's good that you are seeing whre you went wrong. That will help you stay on course.

Keep coming back, we are here for you.

Glad you are back Hombre. You could replace AA in your sentence above with any recovery method and it would ring true. Sobriety is 100% attainable if you put 100% of your effort and will into it. And conversely, nothing will work if you don't follow through- glad to see that your realize that, it's a big step.

you can go into AVRT with half measures too - and fail.

the point is that no matter what method you choose, if you are not 100% committed to sobriety you are destined to fail.

Hey ThatHombre-

Hey, we live, we learn. The great part is that you've seemed to have bounced back. Perhaps this can be a learning thing. You've learned that it takes a bit of effort and a commitment.
Time to right my ship again.
Today is a perfect time.

~Stay strong~

I dragged my arse to a meeting tonight. So glad I did. This was the best one so far. Lots of great people.

"Keep coming back. It works if you work it." Yep!
