Just so were clear when i was drinking going to the doctor for anything was unthinkable when i talked to a doctor for the first time sober 16 months ago it made all the diffrence
in the last 16 months i have been going docs like clockwork and i think everyone would benefit from this
This was a post for newcomers in their first week who ask for medical advice
Gypsy can i ask when you got sober for the first time and went to a doctor to open up and talk about it was it easy ?
for a lot of ppl talking to thier doc esp newcomers is unthinkable but i was proving in time its like water off a ducks back
thats why i posted

I can totally relate, sober Wolf. When I was drinking heavily I didn't go to the doctor for fear that she would be able to tell how bad my drinking was. Over the summer I had surgery to have my gallbladder removed & you wouldn't believe how long I put up with the pain because I was afraid to see a doctor. Even though my doctor wasn't very concerned, she did mention that my liver enzymes were a bit elevated.
So, yeah, I am no longer afraid or ashamed (because I attach shame to everything) to see my doc. Hope your check up goes well! You are an inspiration, Sober Wolf!

Helpful thread brother.....
I too am no longer scared nor dread the Doc! Mine happens to be a friend outside of his office as well. So, he knows my history and lost his brother to addiction. Now, each month I send him a text on my b-day!
I found that addressing issues - cholesterol, sugar etc I am no longer afraid of. There is nothing he can tell me or find that is better left unknown!!! That caused fear and anxiety...
Not making light of your alopecia, wonder if it's just your winter coat coming in Wolf??
Thanks for the highly useful, inspirational post my friend.

Good luck SW and congrats on 16 months this Friday!!! Awesome accomplishment. Good luck at the Doc.
I can also relate to hating going to the doc when I was drinking. I avoided it at all cost; was too scared what they would find from all of my drinking.
I'm no where near 16 months but I did all of my blood work last month when I was 90 days sober. Cholesterol was lowered, blood pressure lower (no meds needed any more), no more fatty liver... Sobriety can work wonders on a body.
Thanks for the post!
