I came to this conclusion and I hope it can help the Al-Anon

As someone struggling with addiction, I try to look for examples that can best explain myself.

Movie; Good Will Hunting

Please forget the Robin Williams reference even though its probably the perfect role for him.

Matt Damon - Will - Plays the addict. He is extremely self destructive but he is the absolute more genius person....he's the only one that understands his drug.

Professor - The loved ones will hurts

Wills friends - his drug.......The ones that support him

The law - Wills consequences that he goes through

Robin Williams - Wills sponsor

If you constantly look at this movie watching it... it a true addict movie. Perhaps i'm behind the ball on this and this has been long known. But its a great example of how you can't help an addict until an addict wants to help themselves.

Every. Single. Scene. Is about the addict.

Will is abused....he's an orphan...

Please take into account that while you believe you understand you know every part of your childs/loved ones history.... that they may have encountered some abuse that you don't and can't understand.... and there isn't anyone who can. Except for his drug or finally... a sponsor.

I was abused by my brother when I was a child. However, when i'm with the therapist and with my parents..... and my parents say, "We did the best we knew how" because they didn't know the abuse... and I didn't say anything back then.

Its such a helpless feeling.

At the end of the movie....Wills best friend...ben affleck, says to him, "If you're still here hanging out in 20 years, i'll ******* kill you"

The drug.

There truly isn't one single scene....even 5 seconds... that doesn't relate.

I finally understand the absolute madness and detail they put into movies as well.

I hope I can be able to finally say that this is my understanding.

Robin Williams knows the day he met his wife. His drug. The exact date and the amazing event he missed. He misses her but she is dead. He's over it and its done with.

Holy **** I wish and hope that other addicts can find clarity in something like this.
