New to the site (sort of)
Hi I'm Bob,
Apparently I've been a member here since 2007 but haven't posted.
The notices say I should introduce myself. This is a forum for newcomers, I didn't see one fro new site members.
I got sober on 6 May 1992, I suppose I am not a newcomer. I would like to believe I am a perpetual student though so I guess I am in that sense....
Anyway, I hope to be as helpful as I can.
I'm an alcoholic, a Navy retiree and an addictions counselor for the Navy.
Thanks for having me.

What happened was I got in a lot of trouble with the Navy and instead of throwing me out they offered me treatment. While waiting I started going to meetings, and found them appealing. I went to treatment, had a spiritual experience and never looked back (too intensely).
Of course, I got here with my relationships in shambles and effectively being unloveable. It was only by sobering up that I cared enough about those things to fix them.
I had the advantage of being really young (21) which meant that I had a little less to unlearn.
I also see you are fairly new. That means the correct answer to your question is "One Day at a Time" Stick around, it'll get different, then you'll realize that different is better.
