anxiety

hi I'm new and today is my first day. I am feeling really anxious. Any tips? I am stopping drink completely is there any danger signs I need to be aware of? I drank i bottle of wine plus 4 cans at least a day for 2 years.

We can't predict what your withdrawal will be like. If you can't get to a doctor, is there at least someone with you who can help you?

Welcome Ruddie and congrats on your decision to quit. Anxiety is definitely possible during withdrawals along with a whole host of other possibly symptoms. If you feel unsure or unsafe, certainly see your doctor. The amount you drank doesn't always equate to the severity of your symptoms either, so the best bet is to play it safe and seek medical attention if you don't feel right.

As far as what to do, keeping busy, getting as much rest as possible and drinking lots of water/eating good food helped me out.

Welcome! Finding new, non-drinking activities to occupy my time and finding new, non-drinking friends were keys for me.

Ruddie, I am on day one as well and it is not easy. Able to partially function at work today. We are in this together. Lets keep each others posted.

If you can, focus on your breathing, but it's more helpful if you practice it when your anxiety level, so no help now. De caffeinated hot tea called Tension Tamer has been effective for me. Just hot water works too. I don't get to a zero, but I had anxiety prior to drinking. Alcohol definitely made it worse and since quitting it happens less. I was very anxious my first month.

Thank you for the replies. I am trying to ride it and its a challenge. Work tomorrow will help, and I am really lucky to have a couple of good friends who don't drink at all. I have confided in one who is being lovely. She wasn't/isn't quite aware of the extend of my drinking
