This is what a Bender will do to you. Push your nerves to the edge.

Every time I come off a bender the insomnia and anxiety drive me crazy.

I am so sick of this....please help me.

Oh boy do I remember those feelings - a few short days ago, I was where you are now.
Your head feels like the inside of a washing machine yeah? Food tastes like paper and you kinda half wish the world would just end.
It only takes a few short days (and lots of water) for things to calm - please invest in those few short days?
You ARE worth it!

Every time I close my eyes a millions thoughts go through my head. I lay there twisting and turning and just have to get out of bed. What a wicked curse.

Insomnia in early sobriety is THE WORST! It saps energy and skews judgment, making it harder to stay on the sober path. Mine lasts about 7 or 8 days coming off a bender. By day 5 of insomnia the siren song of the bottle seemed pretty reasonable. 6 hours of drunk sleep was gonna be better than 2 hours of sober sleep.

Don't do it!

It's a trap. If you want better sleep, stay sober. You can survive the insomnia long enough to get to the other side. I did and I sleep like a rock most nights now.

You can do this.

Have you tried putting a radio on next to the bed? Have it so it's almost too low - it's a great distraction. One thing I did was play games in the 'arcade' (scroll to top of page). I'm not usually into computer games, but it did help
I also clung to SR like I was trying to save it from being closed down - it's an amazing place - just when you think you've seen all it has to offer, you find more threads / sections.
Hang in there

It's a crappy cycle.

Bender, anxiety, insomnia, million thoughts per minute...... Can't stand it

Bender, anxiety, insomnia, million thoughts per minute......... Repeat, repeat, repeat.

You can die of untreated alcoholism

You cannot die of insomnia

But it'll make you pretty darn crazy for 3,4,5 nights.

It's definitely worth it to break the cycle though.

Best of luck with it all

One wonderful thing about SR is that it's 24/7, so whatever time of day or night, there is always someone around.

Hi ,MS.

I've been sober 18 days now, sleeping like a baby.

The insomnia was getting bad, really bad, before.

Come on, let's do this together, you and us. There's always someone around here.

You can stop ! you need a plan, and you need support.

Thank you Janie. Just made a cup of tea. Will drink it slowly. No sleep last night at all. Will walk around like zombie today and Halloween is tomorrow. The Sad Sad existence we live. I need to stay sober forever with all of you.

Thank you.

Your sleep patterns will normalize in a while. Stay sober! It gets better, I promise.
