Excessive Use Of The Word "I"?

Does excessive use of the word "I" mean anything. They go out of their way to say "I said this, I did that, I told you , I told them, I haven't eaten etc. I I I , literally almost every sentence starting with the word "I".

Pun intended but am I looking for something that isn't their?

To me they use it because everything is only about them. Nothing, nobody matter except them. When they begin to see there are other people, and things that are more important than them its a beginning of change. It gets tiring hearing "I I I"

It's funny bc in therapy, I've learned the importance of using I statements, but when an addict uses I constantly, I feel like it's also to convince himself that he is not wrong. It's almost impossible to have an adult conversation with them. Sometimes, my addict uses "you" statements, but it's usually only to blame me for everything. LOL!

I've also learned the importance of I statements. It's not my place to speak for another unless they've given me permission or they can't speak for themselves.

On the flip side, I don't only talk about myself unless it's required and or necessary.

There are communicative "I" statements and there are narcissistic "I" statements...you know the difference when you hear it. Trust your instincts. And as usual addiction or the use of drugs/alcohol has nothing to do with it.
