Hello

Hey everyone,

I am a newcomer to the threads. I'm 30 years old and have decided its time to quit drinking for good. I am your weekend warrior variety.... I typically work a Monday-Friday 8-5 job. During the week I dont drink at all. Put in a long day of work followed by a workout session then dinner and bed. Once Friday rolls around, Thats when the drinking starts. Once I start drinking, I usually have a very difficult time stopping. There are plenty of weekends that go by where I dont drink or I am able to somehwat control it and have a fairly mellow weekend. The number of bad weekends has come to outnumber the good ones. I will slip into a drunken stuper and before you know it Monday morning rolls around and I feel like dog crap. It never used to affect my work but I've begun to notice it starting to creep into my work schedule. Not that I drink on the job or anything like that, but if I have a really rough weekend, it typically takes me a day or two to feel right before I'm functioning at my hghest level. I've started to choose drinking over friends. I typically will avoid hanging out with friends because all i want to do is drink so I will stay home to drink or go to my local where all the other regular drunks hang out so im near people that will not judge me.

I tried this almost a year ago and was able to make it 92 days on my own. I really want to quit for good this time so i'm taking a look at joining these forums for support and advice.

Hey BeefLV99, welcome!

It sounds as if you're getting your arms around things before they really get out of hand, which is great. If you take some time to read some of the many stories in here, it's clear that sooner or later, things will get out of hand. It's just the nature of the beast, so congrats for taking note of that early on. I think you'll find a lot of support, which should make things easier.

Glad to meet you Beef.

I once drank like you - just weekends. Over the years it became increasingly hard to have control. Sunday drinking became 'hair of the dog' Monday drinking - & eventually it was every day. I would never have believed I'd allow that to happen - but it took over my life. I'm happy you're seeing what needs to be done and taking action.
