Day 1 again
I have had a good day. Day 1 for me, again.
Last night I drank 3/4th of a 5th of Captain Morgan. And today I was supposed to drive home (3 1/2 hours south of where I live) for my Dad's 60th b day dinner. But I really didn't feel like going. So I didn't. I will still call him tomorrow, his actual b day, to wish him a happy birthday and chat.
Instead, I took my car to the shop for an oil change and tire rotation, then went to a closed AA meeting and introduced myself for the first time when they asked if there are any newcomers, and picked up another white chip.
After the meeting, a few ladies came up to me and gave me their phone #. And two of them took me downstairs to get a newcomer packet, a when and where, and a list of sponsors and temporary sponsors. And one of them sat and talked to me for a whole hour.
A birthday speaker meeting was starting after that so I stayed for that meeting also and I bought a Big Book.
I have been going to meetings but tonight was the first time I spoke to people after the meeting and got #s and the tools I need to start moving forward in the program.
Hopefully this time things will start to get better.

Sounds positive.
AA members took the time to talk with you, bought a book.
Nice one.
See if you can find yourself in there.
I remember first time I read the book, thinking "how the heck did these guys write a book about me 80 something years ago??? "

I second the suggestion to read the Big Book. It told the story of my life with alcohol as well. I think I read it in one sitting!
