Another New one!!

Ive been reading this site for ages and I have found it so helpful and can relate to so many stories
Am 36 ive lost everything through drinking, kids home partners etc..
However I have it all back now yet still drink... (no one knows but me)
No where near what I used to which could be a bottle of vodka a night, a bottle of wine etc... but that's not the point I still drink
I know that I don't want to drink but the bully in my always tells me other wise... am just tired of drinking now;. Ive been to AA meetings and they didn't work for me.

I have a great family, my children are back in my life, I see them all the time, own house, great job.. But yet once I close the door on am evening bout 8pm, I go back out to the shop and buy a bottle of wine or vodka.. its a fighting game like contast being on a merry go round..

Sorry its all a bit of a jumpy email,
I am always now saying I will not drink today... who knows tomorrow, this is the only way I can do this... I will win the fight this time, not the bully for today

Looking forward to support and supporting others

Hey Nic, welcome to SR! Do you have a detox plan? Withdrawals can get rough for those of us who drank daily or many yrs. or both--even life threatening. Don't hesitate to see a Dr. if needed. There is a lot of support here. Best wishes on day 1!

Hi Nick, and I'm glad you decided to post.

Maybe you could push yourself to do something different at 8pm. How about meeting a friend or your partner for coffee, or going for a walk? Could you call a friend? Try to find something to do that will break the habit and get you through the early days.

Hi Nic! and welcome. I am only day 2 so I may not have the best advice but you need to build a toolbox. It's hard to keep life the exact same and just take the drink out.

I have avoided any party invites; avoided some of my drinking buddies. Every morning I meditate, say a prayer, come on SR and post, and a few other things. In other words, I am changing the old routine up. Hope this helps.

I know just how you feel Nic. I used to tell myself I wasn't going to drink and then find myself driving to the liquor store. I agree with Anna's suggestionto find something to do at that witching hour when you would normally drink. You need something to break that cycle and replace the drinking habit.

Glad to have you here!
