As many of you have witnessed, I've been stuggling to stay sober since my relapse (last October) after almost 6 years of sobriety. Every single day has been a struggle! I LOVE SR and will continue to use it as a great tool!

What I realized today is I CANNOT STAY SOBER BY MYSELF!

I know I'm not alone if I'm on SR....but in away I am because I can't see all of your beautiful faces! I need face to face! (I know I've said that before).

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Here's what I KNOW (for me):
-I got sober in 2008 and was very active in AA.
-I stayed sober for almost 6 years
-I relapsed last October after not going to meetings and not being in contact with other alcoholics for 2 years. (LONELY)
-I've tried SR
-I've tried RR
-I've tried religion/church/prayer/meditation
-I've tried diet and exercise
-I've tried everything!

NOTHING but AA has ever worked for me so I'm going back so I can get out of this HELL and be around other people who truly understand!

One thing I've realized is I can WANT to be sober just like I can WANT to be a billionaire. But until I get off my ass and do ACTION it will never happen!

Hi Serenidad, AA has also been crucial to my recovery and I was the last person who ever believed that would work for me. Like in a gazillion years. But it has and I find that if I go for more than a week without a meeting or without some face-to-face with "my people," I start to go to places in my head that are best not visited alone. Ever.

Your post reminds me that I need to keep doing what works and get my lazy a$$ off the couch and to a meeting, even when I don't feel like it. Maybe especially when I don't feel like it.

It also reminds me that I saw someone walk into a meeting a few nights ago who had been away for about two years (back out). When she walked through that door, people immediately stood up and went to her, hugged her, and were surrounding her with what was clearly love. No judgement for being away, not questions asked. Just genuinely happy to have her back. I bet it'll be the same for you too

Compressed time span, 2 years sober ... and expanded time span .... 4 years of trying to fool myself that I could drink like a normal drinker.

No one else was fooled .... only me.

I agree with the mantra: "do what works for YOU". It sounds like you're ready to follow a plan that you have a solid history with - great to hear it. Remember how good everything was going with your life when you were sober? Get it back. Sounds like you know how. And you are feeling the urgency, and that's good too! Looking forward to hearing updates and your report!
