Day 8...

Hi all...made it to day 8....im feeling good, but I'm struggling with not having a drink. I'm having thoughts like ," you did it for 8 days....you don't have a problem....you can drink like "normal" people." It's been tough today. Glad I have this group....ive never made it to 8 days. Minute by minute....here in Massachusetts.

Have you read up on addictive voice recognition technique?
Might explain those thoughts really well and how to ignore them.

8 days....keep going.....not long until double figures! xx

Congrats on eight days! Keeping myself busy really helped me to get through those tough early days. Stay strong. It gets easier with time.

Awesome job on day8! Don't listen to the voice that says it's ok to drink. That voice is a liar. Keep on keeping on and days will turn into weeks.

I made it to 5 weeks then decided to try being a "normal drinker".... it's been about two months and I've had more hangover days than not. Some of us just can't stop at two. My husband can, it baffles me, he'll even drink half a glass and not finish it?! I could never do that. I agree on studying AV, it really helped me before. Back to day one. Good luck!

8 days is great. It proves that you DO NOT have to drink to stay alive.

At 8 days usually the physical discomfort etc...are gone for me. Its the mental side that always tries to draw me back in...It sounds like you are dealing with that cursed AV.

One tool i picked up in my latest stint at Rehab is to *Play the tape through*

Imagine the thought process of going/making up your mind you will drink again...But only for a bit/day etc.

Think of what happens after you have the first one...Will you be able to stop at one day? One drink? Will it satisfy you? Or will you crave more?

For me it usually ends with hospitalization/rehab/or someone intervening to stop me (Family, etc...) It's never ME who stops.

I'm out of control when it comes to alcohol. I can't use it safely. PERIOD.

If you are like me. I hope you don't drink. Don't give into the lie.

Stay sober.
