Introverted Joy
Being an introvert is working well for my sobriety. Socialising is too complex. I have to be socially competent for work and church, that's enough right now. One year of freedom under my belt. I wanted to add to the Introvert discussion, but am new and can only see how to start a thread. I will improve.

I wouldn't consider myself an introvert, but that kind fo approach helped me plenty especially in the early sobriety. I never told anyone what I was doing, and kept it a secret. Only SR knows about my recovery, and I find it good that way.
Congratz on the 1 full year. Truly an accomplishment.

Congrats - and way to jump in. Welcome to SR

And yes, I fully agree that being ok being comfortable with my own company has been a huge asset in helping me get and stay sober.

You know, I really hadn't thought about that until I read these posts. And I agree.
I'm still in early days, just spending time with myself, and I like it. I'll socialize later, but not gonna rush into it now.
Thanks for giving me something else to ponder.

Hi Slocombe! Glad you joined us!
Have you read the following book?
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking
by Susan Cain
It's an easy, eye-opening, and empowering read for me, a natural introvert.
Enjoy!

Hi Slocombe - welcome to SR! Congrats on the sober year, that's awesome
Yeah being quite introverted also works well for me in sobriety. Certainly don't struggle that much with the "loneliness" issue. But at the same time, I'm discovering that I am less introverted now in recovery. Not entirely sure to what extent it's sobriety related, or just personal development - probably both.

I really admire that quality specially since by not telling anyone truly makes is all about yourself. I need to learn a lot from introverted people so I can stop walking through life with a foot in my mouth. I told everyone about quitting. I guess trying to be accountable in some way... 1 year is awesome! And the fact that it is literally "all YOU" is amazing! So proud!
