Finally!!! A week!!!

Praise God! I haven't had a drop of alcohol OR a cigarette in a WEEK. I quit both at the same time because they trigger each other and the cravings feel the same. (I also did this when I had almost 6 years of sobriety).

I truly couldn't put more than 2-3 days together since my relapse last October so I'm so grateful!

I have been doing ALOT if self-care this past week. Sleeping whenever I can as much as I can when I'm not working, trying to avoid stressful people and situations, exercising, EATING, postponing that never ending "to-do" list and only doing what is necessary and praying.

Thanks for the support here on SR! I had a really bad craving that lasted for an hour (ugh!) yesterday and got through it so I know I have a long way to go....but 7 days is a start because I was starting to lose hope.

Xo-thx for putting up with my craziness lately! Alcohol sucks!

Great Post Serindad.

I really needed to hear / read your post with your victory. It help's me a lot. Also, I think it's fantastic that you are doing major changes in your daily life to help you.

Stay strong as your victories help inspire us that are struggling as well.

Thanks Charlie! I will stay strong! 4 other things I have been doing that have been helping is exercise (even if just a walk), deep breathing, thinking all the way through the drink to the bloody and painful end and listening to Christian music (which I didn't do in the past). I know not everyone is Christian or religious (and that's ok) but for me, it has helped b/c the words of the songs ALWAYS seem to be speaking to me. I started doing this 7 days ago.

My belief is that addiction is darkness and sobriety is light. Light is God. Darkness cannot live where there is light. Maybe at the end I will learn that all God wanted was for me to be close to Him. I've never been overly religious but am pretty spiritual. Again, I totally respect everyone else's beliefs about religion and God...just sharing how I have found some strength and hope.

God bless! Xo

Yeah Serenidad! Good for you!

I too have made it a week and I am on Day 8 now and feeling much better. I had a seven year stretch of sobriety 7 years prior to this and I am so grateful I have finally been able to go a week at a time sober (I could only make it two or three days before).

I like your analogy about: My belief is that addiction is darkness and sobriety is light. Light is God. Darkness cannot live where there is light.

I too believe that God plays a role in my sobriety. Without Him or a belief in Him, I do not think I could stay sober. I do not attend AA, but I do need to have something more to rely on than just myself and God helps me do that.

Hugs to you and congrats!
