AV does get weaker
AV does get weaker
Hi Everyone,
In a few days I'll have 19 months since I retired from drinking. While the first few weeks were the hardest I managed to get through them. After that it really got easier for me.
This past weekend I got to go back to Illinois for my brothers induction into the Illinois Bowling Hall of Fame.
I haven' seen my brother in 7 years, due to our schedules and geography, there was no way I was going to miss it.
This also meant running into friends that I haven't seen in a long time, some of them over 20 years. Most of them I drank and partied with back then.
While on my way, the old AV popped in, "you're staying at a hotel, your not driving, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, all your friends will be partying"
When I arrived, if anyone asked if I wanted a drink, I simply said Pepsi.
Of course I got a few puzzled looks, but I explained that I don't drink anymore and nobody pressed the issue even though some were doing it up as hard as we ever did.
My AV thoughts, while there, lasted only seconds and were forgotten about quicker than they came.
The next day, I felt great knowing that I made the best decisions possible that night and that I didn't feel at all uncomfortable not drinking while others were.
The AV was also wrong about it being a "once in a lifetime opportunity" as all the inductees mentioned me in their speeches and said I belong up there with them. So hopefully the HOF will call soon.
So, if you are still having that AV popping in, remember, it can be beat!!!!!!
Stay Strong Everyone

Good job!
It's nice to hear this, as I'm in the stage if wondering how I'm going to get through 'social drinking' situations which in my life at the moment are fairly regular!
I'm just going to take one day at a time though and continue to take insipiration from people such as yourself! Thanks for the motivating post, it's good to know!

Wow, you've inspired me as well. I have to go out of town this weekend for business. It's about four hours away and generally an overnight stay. At only a week into sobriety I know that I'm not ready for time alone in hotel. Soooo I am gonna get up before dawn and attend meeting then get my sober butt home before midnight. Going to shut the AV up before it starts.
Big congrats on 19 months.
