Good news.
Good news.
When I got arrested for nicking wine a month or so ago they stripped me of my trousers and shoe laces because I had threatened to do away with myself If they put me in a cell. I was pretty upset and I've been sober since.
Anyway, the best part of this is that the mental health nurse that saw me that day has helped fast track my referral to the local relapse prevention centre. This place is the Mecca of drug and alcohol rehabilitation in this area. They have all sorts of stuff going on; therapy, volunteering, music lessons, gym and lots of other hippy stuff, all the good stuff you know.
I've had an initial assessment and been allocated a support worker who's gonna to take me to this place to have a look around on wednesday. She emphasised that what I get out of this place depends on my effort. My doctor has suggested that he signs me unfit for work so I might even be eligible to be resident at this place.
So I guess the moral of the story here is let yourself be helped. I've lived a miserable existence for the last couple of years, barely making it too and from the shop without falling over drunk. I was pretty touched by how much my doctor, the support worker and that nurse wanted to help. I have been living in my own screwy-minded head, they told me i'm not well man! I'm gonna believe them for a bit, I have some kind of plan to work on myself and focus on getting better. As for the effort she suggested that I put into this, well i'm all in.

I am so chuffed to read this Jim. I was in the class of Oct 2012. I have often checked to see how you were doing and truly hoped you would find your own way out. As sober recovery and all of you in that class were my lifeline, I think you have just been thrown yours. Grab it with both hands and know that you deserve it.

Jim that is the best news!
I will keep everything crossed you get residential.
Will you come back and let me know?
I hope you fully engage yourself, even in the hippy stuff mate! Although herbal tea always gives me bad heartburn!
I am glad you have been offered help and it seems compassion and understanding too.
I know you felt bad about the police incident, but you know, if those police could see you now, I bet they would be happy you are going to get help to get better, and would be 100% behind your efforts to beat the booze.
No decent human being likes or wants to see another human being suffering. The only thing that matters is that you are getting help you rightly deserve and you have a good chance of recovering.
Promise you will let us all now how its going?
Wishing you the best with bells on! xx
