Alcohol wants us dead
Alcohol wants us dead
A friend of mines nephew committed suicide after a long binge. I met him multiple times in one of my meetings. He would come in beat to crap by alcohol then go for 2 to 3 weeks and disappear until he would show up again. Unfortunately he didn't have one more recovery left
I never underestimate my foe because I have seen far too many pay the ultimate price for complacency.
My first sponsor told me if I was around AA for very long I had to get used to stepping over the bodies. I thought he was exaggerating but I now know he was deadly serious

MIR... I am sorry this happened.... I also had people around me passing (including taking their life) due to addiction and other mental illness... It makes me remember how bizarre and fascinating it is that we are here each day.
Very sad.
Yes, in a room alone, curtains drawn, sad songs on the player and surrounded by empty bottles.
Then dead.
That's where it will take me if i don't let in the light and air.
Today i will do whatever it takes.
Thank you for the reminder.
Again , very sad to lose another.

sad news, and a dose of reality.
I remind myself that if I were to have a 'next time' with DUI - I'd be going to prison.
And if I didn't have a 'next time' with DUI but let drinking back in my life.... the other option could very likely be death.
this is nothing to play around with.... the road keeps on dragging us toward tragedy. Some faster than others, but all with the same end result. And along the way.... misery.
It's utter insanity that we keep trying to convince ourselves the risks are 'worth it'.

That is why WE have to stand strong with
Faith, Fellowship, Service within recovery
to ward off KING ALCOHOL/ADDICTION.
It can do all it wants to tempt or bring
US down, but won't get thru a Strong
Recovery Suit of Armor.
RIGHT?
