Talking I did it!

I conquered my previously tricky day 3 and went out with friends!

I didn't even fancy a drink and as the night went on and I watched how peoples behaviour changed around me, I felt a bit of a pitty (not in a holier than thou way), a pitty that they are missing how it all is really happening and how it all really feels!

I have also had a bit of a cry this afternoon and let out some feelings in private ! My self reflection thanks to AA and you guys is amazing! Also did some meditation before I went out which really helped.

I know I am in a different mind set now, thinking on a different plane!

Thanks to you all, couldn't do it on my own!!

I couldn't stay sober doing what you're doing Buggirl - I tried just living my old life but just not drinking...but I never managed it.

I hope you can make it work.

I totally agree with you about seeing others change around you. It IS really sad to witness. I usually leave when I notice it bc I don't really wanna be around people who are under the influence, even if it is just a little. Good for you, BG. Good for you.

I'm just reading a book about Dr Bob, the AA co- founder.

He put a bottle of whisky on his window sill in the kitchen.

Kept it there till he died sober 15 years later.

He realised shielding himself from booze was impossible if he ever wished to re-join his old friends and activities.

I think you did the right thing meditating before you went out.

Well done

Good for you Buggirl. Just be careful as Dee cautions. I think the meditation was a good way to prepare yourself.

Congrats on day 3!

Way to go, Buggirl! I haven't tried "returning to the scene of the crime" yet. Way to stay strong! I have to say that I feel a natural affinity to you because your "name" is what my sister used to call my daughter (because she had such big blue "bug eyes"). Good memories.
Have a great day!

Great job Buggirl! At some point I could see myself going out with friends and just having club soda, but not yet. Good for you for handling it!

Well done, those beery smiles on your mates faces don't look so good when you are sober.

Hello: I'm glad that you sound so positive. I think that it might be hard to be around drinkers at the beginning, but it can be done. I have been going to bars and cookout since the beginning of my sobriety and have been able to do just fine. It did take a change in my thinking and making the commitment that I am done forever. Remember, it is all up to ourselves. We know ourselves best and you know if you can handle these situations. It is really hard, but it can be done. I'm almost at 7 months.
